Auntie Vicki-Laine Green
Auntie maikutena Vicki-Laine Green is an artist who specialises in traditional arts––shell necklace making––which has been passed on to her via her older sister Bernice Condie – who was also a recognised and acclaimed traditional necklace maker, basket weaving and kelp artist. In addition, maikutena tells stories of her Ancestors, family and Creation stories through quilting.
Auntie Vicki has been very privileged to have exhibited in many cities and regional towns within Australia including being invited to be a featured artist at the Darwin Aboriginal Arts Fair in 2018. She has also been fortunate to have a shell necklace in a permanent exhibit at the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art International Collection in Virginia, USA.
maikutena is now providing support and teaching her niece, Teresa Green, in her journey of becoming an established and recognised traditional artist. Vicki is currently engaged in teaching traditional shell necklace making, basketry and bull kelp artistry to Aboriginal women on Flinders Island and on Cape Barren Island.
